Gibson to Release New Hendrix Guitar

A brand new Jimi Hendrix guitar model is in the making from Authentic Hendrix and Gibson.

Gibson.com talked to Hendrix’s sister Jane to get the low-down on the upcoming guitar model.

“The look of the guitar will reflect his stage presence and the clothing he wore,” Jane said. “It’ll be very colorful.”



She also explained how the new guitar model represents the dynamic legacy of her brother.

“His inspiration, talent, and genius at guitar playing all fueled this instrument’s creation,” she said. “For one example, Jimi turned right-handed guitars upside down and restrung them. That changed the way the strings and pick-ups interacted, which created a whole different sound. Now we’ve incorporated a new design into the placement of the pick-ups to help recreate that unique sound.”

In the past, Authentic Hendrix collaborated with Gibson to make the popular Flying V guitar. The guitar was inspired by the actual instrument Jimi played during the Isle of Wright Festival in 1970.

Besides new guitar models made in honor of the late Jimi Hendrix, new DVD’s and previously unreleased material will available in the future.

“We probably have another decade of music, including video. Every 12 to 18 months we’ll continue to have new releases and Dagger [Experience Hendrix’s label for board and audience recordings] official bootlegs,” Jane explained. “Jimi was a workaholic. After Electric Lady studios was built he was able to record constantly for as many hours as he wanted to. It’s almost as if he knew he had only four years to accomplish everything that he did. We have an amazing amount of original masters, including a lot of material that hasn’t been previously released.”

With the Beatles re-releasing their discography and soaring in popularity, it was only a matter of time before the Hendrix train got back on track. I wouldn’t be surprised if in the future we see even more classic artists brought back into the mainstream. Jim Morrison is probably rolling in his grave.
