Radiohead guitarist Ed O’ Brien, along with Blur drummer Dave Rowntree have teamed up to support a motion proposed by the Featured Artists Coalition against illegal downloading
The motion proposes a “3 strikes” rule, which would cause those who constantly download music illegally to receive up to three letters, each increasing in severity if the piracy continues. After the third letter, and the user continues to steal music, restrictions would be placed on the guilty party’s internet connection speed.
The Featured Artists Coalition is a non-profit organization whose sole purpose is to protect artists’ rights, something that has become increasingly important in the digital age.

Already in the United Kingdom , Business Secretary Lord Mandelson has revealed his plans to cut off a copyright infringer’s internet connection if the downloading is persistent.
All of this has been announced in the wake of Lily Allen’s sudden break from the music scene, after she posted a blog on her official site stating, “the days of me making money releasing music have gone.”
Allen also said that she will not release another album and even turned down a recording contract with label EMI.
