Apple Inc. is more than just slim shady. The company is being sued by Marshall Mather’s, a.k.a Eminem’s, publishing company, Eight Mile Music, for copyright infringement, due to claims that Apple Inc. earned $2.5 million from Mr. Mather’s 2002 soundtrack, 8 Mile.
The album was released under Aftermath records, which is also being sued by Eight Mile Music for putting together a deal with Apple Inc. to sale and make profits from Mather’s music.
Unless a settlement is reached, the trial will begin this Thursday, September 24.
Eminem is no stranger to the court room. In 1999, the rapper was sued for $10 million by his own mother who claimed he used slander against her in his debut album, The Slim Shady LP. Mrs. Mathers only made about $1,600 in the case.
Then, in 2001, Eminem was charged with a weapons violation, causing him to go on probation, pay a $2000 fine, as well as serve a few hours of community service. It must be nice to be on the other side of the lawsuit for a change.
