Christopher Cross at Athens' New Rialto Room

Photobucket

The name Christopher Cross probably doesn’t strike a unanimous chord with college students, even in a known music town like Athens, Ga., but his songs may make you say, “Oh yeah!  I didn’t know that guy sang THAT song!”
So, here are some lyrics:

”Sailing
Takes me away
To where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free”

Are you still unsure of the song?  Well, check out Cross’ famous 1980 debut album cover.

If you still haven’t figured out the song, then check out this video of “Sailing.”

There you go!  I’ll say it with you.  “Oh yeah!  I know that song!”  Anyway, if you already knew who I was referring to from the get-go then I applaud you, because Mr. Cross deserves your recognition.  He is a 1-2-3-4-5!!! time Grammy winner, and the only artist to ever receive the “Big Four” Grammy Awards in one night.  The “Big Four” include: Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist, and Cross won all of these in 1981 for his debut album.

Now that you know who he is and what he has accomplished, you are probably wondering why I’m mentioning all of this.

Well, Mr. Cross will be making his way to Athens, Ga. tomorrow, Friday, September 25, for back-to-back performances at the Classic City’s brand new intimate concert venue, the Rialto Room, located at 500 College Avenue.

The shows start at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Still need convincing?  He is also the man behind songs like “Think of Laura,” “Arthur’s Theme” and “Ride like the Wind.”  These may also be songs you’re unsure if you have heard before, but listen to them at Christopher Cross’ official website, www.christophercross.com.
