Show Pick Of The Day: Violent Soho

Photobucket
Coming to Athens from the land down under, Violent Soho plays a mixture sounding something like murderous garage shrillness washed by waves of Australian surfer rock. Powering out tunes along the lines of Nirvana or Soundgardens’ musical genre, Violent Soho is the perfect mesh of indie garage rock to compliment Built to Spill and Disco Doom—the other bands they are currently touring with.

Hailing from all over Australia, the bands foursome consists of Luke Boerdam (vocals, guitar), James Tidswell (vocals, guitar), Luke Henery (bass) and
Michael Richards (drums). The group has known each other since their school days in Brisbane and maintains a close connection with their hometown.

The move from Australia to the U.S. was no doubt a strenuous one, but it seems Violent Soho is bound for success on this side of the world. The group’s first full LP We Don’t Belong Here was released in 2008, and they recently signed with U.S. label Ecstatic Peace Record headed up by one of the band’s idols, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore.

Violent Soho will hit the stage at 40 Watt tonight, along with their tour mates named above, to put on an energetic, heart-pumping power showdown. Doors are at 9PM and the advanced ticket cost is $15 dollars. All three bands are worth the extra pocket change.
