Show Pick of the Day: Kinky Waikiki at Farm 255
According to Kinky Waikiki’s Myspace page, their influences are comprised of tasty alcoholic beverages such as mai tai’s, rum and tequila; but I translate these influences into one sole inspiration for their soothing traditional Hawaiian music mixed with a shot of Country steel guitar—the inspiration: fun.
Kinky Waikiki is something of an Athens supergroup, with members from other Athens bands such as Vigilantes of Love, Kenosha Kid, Birds + Wire, Pride Parade and Big C and The Ringers, the guys make up a sound that is unique in and of itself, but hails no comparison to any other band around town.
The guys of Waikiki will be featured tonight at Farm 255 for two sets, one at 9 p.m. and another at 11 p.m. The show is absolutely free (what a way to show their ‘Aloha Spirit’) so if you want to find an escape from Thursday’s wet dismal weather, Kinky Waikiki can bring you an escape with the tropical sounds of the Hawaiian islands.
Check em’ out!
