Flaming Lips to cover 'Dark Side of the Moon'
Hot off the release of Embryonic, psych rockers The Flaming Lips are jumping into a big new project. The L.A. Times reported yesterday that the Lips plan to cover Pink Floyd's 1973 album Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety. Prediction: this album is going to be crazy — crazy good.
Since its release, Dark Side has remained one of the most influential and well-loved rock albums of all time, so it's quite an undertaking for the Lips to cover this opus of '70s rock goodness. But it would be difficult to find a band more cut out for the job than the bizarre and uber creative Flaming Lips.
The Lips won't be doing the Dark Side on its own; collaborators include Henry Rollins, Peaches and Stardeath and White Dwarfs, a band whose members include Lips frontman Wayne Coyne's nephew Dennis Coyne.
There is no news yet when this project will get underway or when we can expect the reworked Dark Side.
