ATHICA Symposium: Rock Reporting in the Digital Age

Photobucket Are you a musician, an aspiring journalist, or just want to learn more about how to break into the music business? ATHICA has put together a panel of notable musically-inclined panelists including Michelle Gilzenrat (Music Editor at Flagpole Magazine), Steve LaBate (Associate Editor of Paste magazine), Julie Phillips (Features Editor at the Athens Banner-Herald), Alec Wooden (Editor of Blur) and Allison Weiss (Local DIY singer-songwriter) to discuss their experience and acumen concerning the publishing side of music and the struggles of an artist to ultimately get their music heard in a progressively digital world.

Come hear an undoubtedly thought-churning dialogue on musicians and music publishing at ATHICA from 5:30- 6:30 Saturday, October 17. $3-$6 suggested donation. But don’t be abash if you don’t have the cash — come out anyway. Refreshments provided by Trump Catering and White Tiger Gourmet.

Afterwards, wind down from 7:30-9:30 with some of Athens’ finest local musicians Dodd Ferrelle, Betsy Franck, Heather Heyn, Bart King, Kate Morrissey and Davey Wrathgaber—and a surprise guest musician—singing topics surrounding “the news.”

Proceeds from both events go to The Jon Guthrie Memorial, in memory of the recently deceased Guthrie, which provides under-equipped youth with musical instruments and mentoring.
