Artist of the Day: Randy Rogers Band

If you’re headed to 40 Watt tonight, you’re in for a treat. But, you probably already know that. After all, the Randy Rogers Band is known for their live performances. They earned over 2 million dollars in just one year of touring, according to their official website.

Whether playing a heart-felt tune like “Let It Go” or the cynical “When the Circus Leaves Town,” this fivesome guarantees a honky-tonkin’ good time. That’s why they’ve opened for some of Nashville's big rigs like Willie Nelson, Sugarland, and Gary Allen.

Randy Rogers started playing music early on in life, at age six to be exact, and by the time he was in college he was ready to start his own band. And he did, his band’s first album was recorded in a bar named Cheatum St. Warehouse in San Marcos, Texas. The debut album was aptly named Live at Cheatum St. Warehouse. From 2002 to 2004 the band released two more albums, Like It Used to Be and Rollercoaster.

In 2005 the guys signed on the dotted line with Mercury Nashville records and released Live at Billy Bob’s Texas. Their latest album on Mercury Nashville, The Randy Rogers Band, was produced by Radney Foster and released in 2008. The RRB has also enjoyed some success on the charts, with five of their singles getting on Billboard’s Hot Country Song charts.

So, the band’s had a busy past 6 or 7 years. But, unlike most country artists, the Randy Roger’s Band hasn’t employed big shot Nashville songwriters for their albums. Oh no—these guys like it bona fide. On The Randy Rogers Band, all the songs were co-written by Rogers himself or by bass player, Jon Richardson and guitar player Geoffrey Hill. That’s probably what has keep RRB from sounding like every other all -male country group-- they've kept the clichés to a minimum and remained loyal to their fan base.
