Get Ready for the Rumpus

Photobucket

In the spirit of Halloween — a holiday tailor made for Athens — and in keeping with the recent "Where the Wild Things Are" mania, on October 31st downtown Athens will play host to The Wild Rumpus 2009 Halloween Parade and Spectacle.

The parade intends to capitalize on Athens' many artists, musicians and other creative types to have a Halloween activity that's "a collaborative, all-inclusive, peaceful, fun time for all. And to get our Ya-Yas out, and howl at the moon," according to the event's web site.

Scheduled to start at 10 p.m., the parade will march up and down the sidewalks of downtown, sometimes stopping for performances from its participants. Participants will go from the west end of downtown (near the 40 Watt/Caledonia Lounge area) and end their parading revelry at Tasty World's Halloween party.

Paraders will be separated into "brigades" by costume theme. Some of the already existing groups include "The Masked Revengers" for super hero get-ups, "The Skin-Tight Squadron" for spandex and Lycra lovers and the "Tactical Snuggie Division (TSD)" for fans of those Snuggie fleece blanket/straight jacket numbers.  The parade is open to the public, and you can even form your own brigade to suit your Halloween fancy.  All you need to form a brigade is three other like-minded costumers.

So grab your friends, get working on those costumes and let the Wild Rumpus begin!
