Lil Wayne facing jail time

Photobucket

Today is not Lil Wayne's day. This morning the rapper pleaded guilty to attempted possession of a weapon in the second degree, a charge that could land him in prison for up to one year.

Originally, Weezy pleaded not guilty to the weapon charges filed against him in New York; today's guilty plea was the result of a plea bargain, cutting down the possible jail time from three and a half years to one.

The charges came after NYPD found a handgun on Lil Wayne's tour bus back in 2007. According to a report, the smell of marijuana coming from the bus initially caught the attention of the police, which led them to find the gun inside a designer bag — Weezy conceals his weapons in style, folks — on the bus. The judge later ruled that DNA testing from the gun would be admissible in the case, at which point Wayne decided to take the plea bargain.

It is speculated that Lil Wayne will serve anywhere from eight months to a full year of jail time, and if Atlanta rapper T.I. is any example, he won't be getting out of it just because he's famous. Not to mention the fact that Weezy also faces drug and weapon possession charges in Arizona.  These charges stem another police search of the rapper's tour bus in which they found marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy and a handgun.

His official sentencing will take place in February. Oh, and his new album, Rebirth, is drops December 15.
