Cheap Trick Selling New Album Online

Photobucket
Cheap Trick is ditching its label to independently release its next studio album, The Latest, online and will be available June 23 (the same day Cheap Trick kicks off its tour with Def Leppard and Poison) for fans who pre-order off Amazon or the band's Web site. Though Amazon will have exclusive rights for one month, the 13-track album will be available in limited LP and 8-track editions. Think the band is getting a bit too close to getting the Senior discounts? In a recent interview, Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen said, "When you hear something like (Sick Man of Europe), you think, 'This can't be the same guys.' It sounds too energized for what people expect from somebody who's been around as long as we have...But musically I think it sounds like we grew up a bit." The online album thing has worked for some artists, but do you think Cheap Trick still has enough devoted fans to make it work?
