Artist of the Day: Mindy Smith

Mindy Smith has an angelic voice that lends her brand of folk/country/americana a searing impact. I discovered her back in high school in my hometown, Nashville, and have since listened to her debut album more times than I can count. Her voice is just that amazing. (Think Alison Krauss with a bit more blues)

Smith got her big break in 2003 when she was invited to record a song on Just Because I’m a Woman, a Dolly Parton tribute album. She recorded a version of Parton’s famous single “Jolene” with Dolly herself singing backup. To this day, Smith’s version of the oft-covered song is my absolute favorite.

Smith released One Moment More in 2004, but has not done another album since then. Luckily, it’s just come out that she will be releasing a second full-length album in August titled Stupid Love
