Atlanta rapper shot dead in L.A.

Atlanta rapper Dolla was shot dead outside of an L.A. shopping mall on Monday. Aubrey Berry was taken into custody this morning with another “person of interest” and charged with murder. Dolla, who was born Roderick Anthony Burton II was 21 years old.

Burton’s family relocated from L.A. to Atlanta when he was five years old after his father’s death. He worked his way up the ranks of the city’s hip hop scene. The rapper made his big break when Sean “P. Diddy” Combs signed him as a model for the Sean John clothing line. Then in 2007, he was signed to Akon’s Konvict Music Records. Dolla recorded the hit single “Who the Fuck is That” with T-Pain and had a single featured on the “Step Up” movie soundtrack.

The rapper was in L.A. recording songs for his debut album A Dolla and a Dream
