Cover songs. When they’re good, they’re so good (Jimi Hendrix-All Along the Watchtower). But when they’re bad, it’s almost criminal (Britney Spears- I Can’t Get No Satisfaction). John Mayer, love him or loathe him or pretend to loathe him while secretly loving him, does a damn good cover. These are the top 10 (but there’s many more…seriously, this guy does more covers than Gisele).
- Free Fallin’ (Tom Petty)
John Mayer took a song everyone has heard over and over and made it fresh again. Props.
- Message in a Bottle (The Police)
Almost too pretty. Kind of like Mayer…
- Wait Til Tomorrow (Jimi Hendrix)
Jimi Hendrix is to John Mayer what Bob Dylan was to Jimi Hendrix: cover material. Just wait…
- The Wind Cries Mary (Jimi Hendrix)

- Bold As Love (Jimi Hendrix)
But, for the love of God, listen to the album version and not the live version. He starts droning on (and on) at around the 3:00 mark about absolutely nothing.
- Kid A (Radiohead)
OK, I realize this could be offensive bordering on sacrilegious for some, but I like the bold choice.

- Little Wing (Jimi Hendrix, again, but it’s the last time, promise)

- I Got a Woman (Ray Charles)
I do prefer the original, but this one does it homage.
- Crossroads (Eric Clapton)

- No Woman No Cry (Bob Marley)
It would have been better if he sang, but this acoustic guitar version is quite nice.

Honorable mention: Area Codes (Ludacris cover):
