Holy Crap. The New Drummer for Smashing Pumpkins is 19 Years Old.

Jimmy Chamberlin, former drummer to Smashing Pumpkins, made an incorrect statement to the media last year: “We will write and record until we are dead.” Chamberlin quit the Pumpkins last March and the only remaining original band member, Billy Corgan, decided to hold open auditions in response.

The Smashing Pumpkins fan blog leads us to believe Corgan has found Chamberlin’s replacement. The new Pumpkin is a freshman at the Berklee College of Music. Mike Byrne plays drums in a band from Oregon known as Moses, Smell the Roses. Corgan has promised to release new music in October this year so I guess we will just have to wait and see if this kid is really the new drummer and if he can indeed play as well as Chamberlin.

The video below is Byrne jamming out. Pretty good.
