Timbaland and Nelly Furtado Sued for Plagiarism

Photobucket
A Finnish composer Janne Suni has filed lawsuit under the label Kernel Records Oy against Timbaland and Nelly Furtado for allegedly copying and using, “original and central identifying melodic, harmonic and rhythmic components” from his track “Acidjazzed Evening.” Kernel Records is trying to charge the pop star and hip-hop artist with copyright infringement, retrieve ownership of the copyrights from Mosley Music, LLC and Geffen and prohibit the further release, performance and production of the song in question.

Suni won first place at the Assembly 2000 Old Skool Music Competition for this song. Written by Furtado and composed by Timbaland, the song in question was released on Furtado’s 2006 album Loose under the name “Do It.” In 2007, Timbaland was questioned about the song and said, “that mess is so ridiculous” but wouldn’t discuss details because it was a legal matter.

The YouTube video below was posed in January 2007 anonymously and compares the two songs. I must admit, someone did something illegal here…

  1. I was here looking for more info on the upcoming Timbaland/Steven Tyler collab. Can't wait!

“On 26 March 2010, it was reported that Steven Tyler, intrigued by the 2009 Chris Cornell record Scream, would be teaming up with Timbaland to record a rap album. Guest appearances by Reverend Run and Daryl Mac of Run DMC, Kid Rock, and T-Pain are rumored to be featured on the new project.”
