Artist of the Day: Yeah Yeah Yeahs
New York City-based trio the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s have managed to stay slightly underground, even though most everyone knows who they are (or have at least heard the song “Maps.” Isn’t it a song option on Wii’s rock band?) They have a raw sound and the lovely, talented and generally awesome Karen O as a frontwoman. The YYY’s are often labeled “indie alternative,” which isn’t exactly off base, but how indie is being signed to Interscope and selling about 700,000 copies of your debut album? Thus far, the band has recorded three studio albums, the most recent being this year’s It’s Blitz! Unfortunately, they don’t come through Georgia all too much, but for those gearing up for this year’s Bonnaroo can catch them in less than two weeks.
Who’s Who: Karen O (vocals), Nick Zinner (guitar), Brian Chase (drums)
Formed: 2000 in New York City
Latest Release: It’s Blitz! (2009)
Label: DGC/Interscope
