Artist of the Day: The Beets

Sharing a moniker with the band from the animated masterpiece of a TV show, Doug, The Beets have a decidedly 60s garage vibe, that while catchy and sing-songy is so not Beatles. It is way messier and the vocals are much more nasal. The result is a much cooler sound.

Most of the songs from their debut, Spit in the Face of People Who Don’t Want to Be Cool are quite short (around two minutes), but they will stay with you much much longer than that. I like “Cold Lips” and “I Think I Might Have Built a Horse.” Until recently, you could only get the record as a 12” vinyl, but the band just put up a digital version you can nab on emusic.com.
