Ellen Takes Paula’s Chair on American Idol

Photobucket
We learned earlier this summer that Paula Abdrool—as Perez Hilton appropriately likes to call her—“quit” or more practically was “let go easily” from the panel of American Idol judges. Honestly, I was shocked and a little sadden that the prescription popping, slur queen wouldn’t be entertaining me with her inability to form sentences when judging contestants anymore.

However, ladies and gents, hold on to your seats because Idol’s biggest celebrity fan is joining Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Kara DioGuardi at the judge’s table. Meet your official fourth Idol judge, Ellen DeGeneres.

Not only did the news break on The Ellen DeGeneres talk show, but also FOX has confirmed the new judge. I can genuinely say that DeGeneres’ joining the Idol judge table is good news. I would have officially boycotted Idol had they hired another Kara DioGuardi—she bores me. Okay, DeGeneres knows about as much about musical talent as Tyra Banks, but she is without a doubt one of the funniest people in the entertainment industry, and has been a huge supporter of Idol since it’s beginning. Personally, I would have rather seen Paula stay and Kara go, but all in all Ellen will be an interesting (read: completely pointless but entertaining) judge.

As for Abdul, I hope she isn’t taking it—and by “it” I mean her meds”—too hard. We love you Paula! Perhaps a reprise of that one reality TV show you had? “Hey Paula.”

At least Idol recognizes they need to step up their game for Season 9, which premieres January 2010.
