A Lennon Signature Lands Big Bucks

“Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn’t argue about that; I’m right and I will be proved right. We’re more popular than Jesus now. I don’t know which will go first-rock ‘n’ roll or Christianity.”
-John Lennon

This comment in a 1966 issue of “Datebook” magazine motivated an anti-Beatle sentiment in the U.S., and some people even burned their Beatles albums. It can be argued this remark was certainly taken out of context, but it is still one of the largest pop music scandals of all time. And, apparently historic scandals have a hefty price tag.

An orthopedia surgeon from New York paid a whopping  $12,713 for a copy of the magazine signed “John C. Lennon,” after a 17-day online auction ran by RR Auction in Amherst, N.H.
