'Chinese Democracy' Leak Blogger Is Sentenced

Leaking music on the internet is a no, no, and if you’re leaking the newest Guns n’ Roses album-- Chinese Democracy-- then you better prepare for a year’s worth of probation.

In a Los Angeles court, Kevin Cogill, was tried by US District Magistrate Judge Paul Abrams on July 14. Along with the probation, Cogill will also serve two months of home confinement, his computers must be searched and he will record a public service announcement concerning anti-piracy for the Recording Industry of America.

Cogill apologized for his actions during the trial saying, “I never intended to hurt the artist. I intended to promote the artist because I'm a fan.”

Judge Abrams explained that though large fines and jail time were being sought for leaking the album, he believed that Cogill had learned his lesson and didn’t believe a repeat offense would occur.
