Artist of the Day: The Dead Weather

Photobucket

The Dead Weather is a mash-up of musical talent, comprising of Jack White (White Stripes, The Raconteurs), Alison Mosshart (the Kills), Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age), and Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs). The combination forms a bluesy, alternative rock sound, and their album Horehound, recorded in just fifteen days at White’s Third Man Studio in Nashville, will be released July 14. In the meantime, their first single, “Hang You From the Heavens,” is available in iTunes. The band got their start at the end of the Kills/Raconteurs tour, when White suffered a slipped disc and severe case of bronchitis that threatened his vocal abilities. The band brought Mosshart to take the lead for popular White tracks like “Steady As She Goes,” and the onstage vibes transitioned into a new band. They plan to play shows when the record comes out, but what about the rumored White Stripes album? White explains how he’s able to juggle all the band hopping, telling Rolling Stone, “There’s a new institution, there’s a new studio, there’s a vinyl record label, there’s a pressing plant a few blocks away…Things can happen very quickly. Music will be in your hands quickly. And that’s the point of it.”
