Top 10 most famous people busted for bud

In spirit of today’s date, here’s a list of the most famous people arrested with illegal plants:

10. Amy Winehouse: Ganja is probably the least of her worries, but she was arrested in 2007 in Norway, supposedly “duped” into confessing. She was denied a U.S. visa, which kept her from attending the Grammy Awards last year.

9. Bob Marley: Duh. Actually it was only once though: in 1977.

8. Willie Nelson: 1995: Charges were later dropped when the search was deemed illegal; 2006: Arrested with 1.5 pounds of pot (and a bag of mushrooms) at a traffic stop. He was placed on probation for 6 months.

7. Snoop Dogg-1998: Caught in Los Angeles with less than an ounce.

6. Lil Wayne: Though employees claim they saw a gallon size bag of weed, police only came back with 60 pills of Alprazolama (anxiety meds), 59 hydrocodone pills, and 2 small joints (2006). Again in 2007 he was caught smoking on his bus. In 2008 (wow, he can’t catch a break), he was arrested for having over 100 grams of marijuana (plus cocaine, ecstasy, and a pistol (released on a bail of $10, 185). But, as Weezy F. Baby told Katie Couric of his affinity for weed: “I’m a rapper. That’s who I am, Miss Katie. And I am a gangsta. And I do what I want.”

5. Keith Richards: 1967: Was found guilty of allowing cannabis to be smoked on his property and sentenced to one year in prison. A month later the appeals court overturned Richards's conviction for lack of evidence.

4. Mick Jagger: He was arrested in 1967 and 1970 for marijuana possession, but managed to slip out of jail time. For touring 40 times since 1963 that is no small feat…

3. The Grateful Dead: Their famous house in the Haight Ashbury district of San Francisco was raided. Bob Weir and Pigpen were nabbed.

2. Timothy Leary: LSD guru arrested after police found a small amount of marijuana, which was planted on him, in 1968. He received a 10-year sentence, and managed to escape. However, he was re-captured in Afghanistan and in jail until 1976.

1. The Beatles Minus Ringo

Paul McCartney: Beatle and long time pre-pot advocate was busted several times throughout the 70’s and 80’s. He got caught with 7.7 ounces of marijuana going through customs in Japan in 1980. He was released and deported after 10 days in jail and told he wouldn’t be welcome in the country again. They must have had a change of heart though, because he played a 10 concert there 10 years later.

George Harrison: Arrested in London in 1969 after his home was raided and police found 570 “grains” of pot. Also arrested for marijuana along with his soon-to-be wife on his wedding day in 1969 (ouch!)

John Lennon: Busted with hash in London in 1968. Five years later, he was almost deported because of the charges
