Record Store Day tomorrow!

Photobucket

On April 18 (as in tomorrow), go out and support the local record store as part of the second annual Record Store Day, an event conceived in support of local independent record stores nation-wide. If you’re a music junkie you can bond with other like-minded people running out for rare releases available only for this event. Unfortunately, the closest participating store is Criminal Records in Atlanta, but they’re partying it up all day with 11 bands (Carolina Chocolate Drops, Selmanaires, Player/Kommander, Ocha La Rocha, Noot d' Noot, Mike Farris, Manchester Orchestra, Judi Chicago, Death On Two Wheels, Carnivores, Thy Mighty Contract). There’s a ton of releases, so if you don’t feel like wading through them, here’s a few highlights:

Pavement: Live in Germany LP 1998

Sonic Youth/Beck Split 7-inch

Sonic Youth/Jay Reatard Split 7-inch

Tom Waits: Live from the Glitter and Doom Tour 7-inch

My Morning Jacket: La Celebracion De La Ciudad Natal 2/10-inch

Wilco: Ashes of American Flags DVD (eventually to be released to the public, but those who buy the RSD version of the movie will get access to a download of a full Wilco show)

Radiohead: 10-inch vinyl series

Iron and Wine: Live at Norfolk 6/20/2005

Flaming Lips/Black Keys Split 7-inch (apparently, the Flaming Lips try a cover of Madonna’s “Borderline”)

Sublime: “Superstar Punani” b/w “April 29, 1992”

Ben Harper: “Shimmer and Shine” b/w “Spanish Red Wine” 10-inch

Yeah Yeah Yeahs: It’s Blitz LP

Bob Dylan “Dreaming of You” b/w “Down Along the Cove” 7-inch (live from Bonnaroo)

Even if you can’t make it to ATL, you can still show some support for Athen’s indie stores and buy something tangible for your collection.
