Santana Wants Obama to Legalize Marijuana

Photobucket

The idea of legalizing marijuana has been buzzing on the UGA campus after NORML, a student led organization that advocates the reform of marijuana laws, were accused by the University of breaching copyright violation laws, and felt that their organization was being singled out. It turns out, a lot of our favorite musicians are actively seeking the legalization of the drug too. Carlos Santana voiced his opinion in a recent interview saying that making pot legal is "really way overdue, like the prohibition with the alcohol and stuff like that" and "the president should legalize marijuana and take all that money and invest it in teachers and in education." Santana released these statements while promoting his upcoming rock residency in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, which will kick off May 27 and run until 2010. Many other artists including Jason Mraz, Guns 'N Roses, Pearl Jam and Willie Nelson have all advocated for the legalization of pot. What is Obama's take on the matter? In a recent online town hall meeting, the president disappointed legalization advocates saying, "The answer is, no, I don't think that is a good strategy to grow our economy." Good effort, Santana, but it doesn't look like anyone will be able to smoke their dope freely anytime soon.
