Monsters! Ghosts! Brothels?

Photobucket

Boo! Recording a new album can be a frightening experience, but add in a few visits from Casper and the sessions can get downright terrifying. Just ask M. Ward.

The new group Monsters of Folk – consisting of Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst and Mike Mogie, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James and She & Him’s M. Ward – told NME that while recording their new album they encountered spirits from the great beyond.

The group recorded in Malibu’s Shangri-la studios, which has hosted other great artists such as Bob Dylan and Neil Young. As for the building’s haunting history --- it was once a brothel in the ‘30s.

"You can feel some of the scary, sad ghosts of the brothel. M [Ward] actually saw one,” James explained. “He was freaked out; he didn't want to be in that room for a while. You feel a lot of ghosts there but most of them feel pretty friendly."

Monsters of Folk’s first debut album will drop in September, and listen closely; you may hear the ghosts of brothel dwellers past.
