Show Review: Pretty Lights, the Masquerade, Atlanta, GA
There’s a new sound taking over the U.S. and if you haven’t heard it, shame on you. Colorado-based producer, Derek Vincent Smith or the mind behind Pretty Lights, is filling sold-out venues with an energy never before witnessed in the genre of electronic music. As most DJ’s attempt to incorporate a faux pas of soul into their vibes, Pretty Lights achieves it through the audience’s appreciation. Last night at the Masquerade in Atlanta, Georgia was no different. After showering the audience with a dynamic and powerful show, the people wanted more and more was what they got. The first set included hits “Up and Down I Go,” “How We Do,” “Electro Cali,” among others, but the encore proved Smith’s versatility and new sound that is providing a new forerunner to a really good time on the dance floor. Be sure to check out Pretty Lights in Knoxville, Tennessee May 15th, or in Charlotte on May 16th. The DJ, along with drummer Cory Eberhand, will also be playing at the Wakarusa, Bonnaroo, High Sierra, Rothbury, Forecastle and 10,000 Lakes festivals this summer. Not a bad start.
