Kanye West Supports Education by Hosting a Free Concert

Photobucket

Next month, Kanye West is performing in his hometown, Chicago, in order to support a charitable cause—children staying in school. Through facebook, West announced this concert. The event is sponsored by the Kanye West Foundation started by West’s late mother, Dr. Donda West. This is the first community event from the Kanye West Foundation since the death of West’s mother. The idea of the concert is to decrease the dropout rates in inner-city schools. In order to attend the concert, students must be trying to achieve goals in their classes and improving. Approximately 3000 inner-city children in Chicago will hear West perform and possibly meet him.

West did not come up with this idea of a Stay In School Benefit Concert on his own. The idea stemmed from student, David Abrams. He heard a story about a Chicago student who brought his grades up in order to go to a Lil Wayne concert. His mother promised to buy tickets as long as her son brought up his grades. Abrams formed S.H.O.W. (Students Helping Our World), a teen run organization supported by parents.

Tickets are free to the students who have earned them but tickets will also be sold for special VIP seating. The tickets will range in price from 50-500 bucks.
