Although the title of Spektor’s new song is entitled “Laughing With,” it is far from happy and playful. The chorus states:
No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one’s laughing at God
When they’ve lost all they’ve got
And they don’t know what for
The song is very pretty even though it is much darker than her past works such as “Fidelity.” However, the song has not received as much praise as it has insults. Critics think that this song is going to end up “exploding on AC radio, just not before you hear it scoring the closing credits on next week’s Grey’s Anatomy or Ugly Betty…” (prettymuchamazing.com). Even though the lyrics may be a little too melodramatic, Spektor’s musical ability makes this song worth hearing. The album, Far, is due out in June.
