Artist of the Day: Neko Case
Neko Case started her music career as a member of the New Pornographers. After her time with them, she struck out on her own as Neko Case and Her Boyfriends, but it wasn’t until 2002 when she released Blacklisted, that she was truly a completely solo artist. Though she’s denied it, that album is purportedly about Case being banned from the Grand Ole Opry for taking her shirt off during a performance.
Her latest album, Middle Cyclone is her third original solo record. “People Got A Lotta Nerve” is a humor tinged narrative about caged animals and their relationships with humans. Her songwriting is extremely narrative and deceptively simple.
With a unique voice that can swing from country to rock, Neko Case is one of the more interesting artists in the business right now. She will be hitting the festival circuit this summer, with appearances scheduled at Bonnaroo, All Points West and Lollapalooza. She will also be in Atlanta on July 26 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center.
