Leona Lewis Attacked at Book Signing

Photobucket

It’s rough to be a pop star.

During a book signing in central London, singer Leona Lewis was punched in the head by a young man while she was signing copies of her new autobiography, “Dreams”.

Wednesday afternoon, 29-year-old Peter Kowalczyk was wrestled to the ground by security officers after attacking Lewis, and was arrested once police arrived at the scene.

According to the Press Association, Kowalczyk was sectioned under the Mental Health Act and will be tried on October 26 at the City of Westminster Magistrates' Court.

Lewis went to the hospital after the incident as a precautionary measure.

In a statement, the “Bleeding Love” star (is that ironic?) said:
“"Thank you so much for your support, it is truly overwhelming. Yesterday (Wednesday) was a horrible shock and left me extremely hurt and upset. I'm very sorry to those I wasn't able to meet at the signing.”

Lewis was scheduled to be in Germany for a promotional visit following the signing in London, but canceled plans to recover from the ordeal.

Some pictures of Kowalczyk being wrestled to the ground by security were posted by Def Pen Radio and can be seen by clicking here.
